Massachusetts Biotechnology Employee Turnover Survey

The Massachusetts Biotech Employee Turnover Survey is conducted annually online in April and May. The survey asked questions concerning job openings, hires and employee separations over the last year, regarding the perceived pace of employee separations/turnover, and about distribution of workforce working in office/remotely. Eighty-two companies participated in the survey.
Turnover trend is tracked for the last five years.
The 2026 survey also included information about remote work. We asked for this for scientific roles, manufacturing, and general & administrative roles. About half of respondent employees were employed in scientific roles.
About one-third of total employees were fully remote in 2025-26. Only 26.5% of general and administrative employees worked on-site. We will continue to track this to monitor trends in the Massachusetts biotech workforce, with particular attention to whether the remote/on-site employee split has an impact on employee turnover.
